What is Remvia?

A different approach to clenching and grinding.

Remvia is a novel, FDA-cleared device designed to help address clenching and grinding (bruxism). Instead of simply cushioning the teeth like a traditional night guard, Remvia was designed to approach the problem in a different way.

Each Remvia device is custom-made for the patient and designed to be worn comfortably during times when clenching or grinding may occur. The system includes a device for each side of the mouth.

A new category for bruxism care

Instead of sitting between the teeth, Remvia sits at the back of the jaw between the soft tissue.

It keeps the jaw from closing — preventing the contact that causes grinding in the first place.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What makes Remvia unique?

Traditional night guards sit between the upper and lower teeth and act as a barrier to help protect the teeth from grinding forces. Remvia sits primarily in the cheek, with a small extension positioned behind the molars rather than between the teeth. When the teeth come fully together, the extension behind the molars engages, allowing the device to function differently from traditional night guards while remaining small and comfortable to wear.

What symptoms can Remvia help with?

Many people who clench or grind their teeth have already tried traditional night guards but notice they are still clenching. Over time, this can contribute to worn or chipped teeth, jaw soreness, muscle tension, or symptoms associated with TMJ. Remvia is designed to help protect against teeth grinding, bruxism, and jaw clenching while the device is being worn. It may also provide short-term relief from muscle spasm due to occlusal interference and help prevent chronic tension and TMJ syndrome associated with chronic jaw clenching.

What material is Remvia made from?

Remvia is 3D-printed from a medical-grade material used in many modern medical devices. It has been tested to ensure it is safe for contact with the body, including inside the mouth. The material is soft, flexible, and durable so it can be worn comfortably and safely during sleep or other times when clenching or grinding may occur.

Can Remvia be used if I have crowns, veneers, implants, or other dental work?

Unlike traditional night guards that sit directly on the teeth, Remvia does not cover the biting surfaces. Because of this, it can generally be used by people with crowns, veneers, implants, and other dental work. This design also means that if dental work changes over time, such as getting a new crown, Remvia typically does not need to be adjusted or remade.

Is Remvia comfortable to wear?

Remvia is designed to be less invasive than traditional night guards because it does not sit between the teeth. Many people find it very comfortable when their teeth are at rest and not in contact. When clenching or grinding occurs and the teeth come fully together, the extension behind the molars engages as part of the device's design.

Can Remvia be worn with retainers or during orthodontic treatment?

In many cases, yes. Because Remvia does not sit on the teeth like a traditional night guard, it can often be worn with retainers or during orthodontic treatment. For retainers, impressions are typically taken with the retainers in place so the device is designed to fit alongside them. Your dentist can help determine what will work best based on your specific appliance.

What if I have a gag reflex?

Remvia sits primarily in the cheek rather than covering the roof of the mouth or sitting between the teeth. Because of this smaller design, most people do not experience a gag reflex when wearing it. As with any new device, it may feel slightly unfamiliar at first, but most people adjust quickly.

What should I expect when I start to wear Remvia?

When you first begin wearing Remvia, it may feel new or slightly unusual simply because it is something you have not worn before. Some people also notice a little extra saliva at first, which is a normal response when introducing something new into the mouth. Most people adjust quickly. Many people find the device comfortable when their teeth are at rest, while the extension behind the molars only engages when the teeth come fully together during clenching or grinding.

Will Remvia stop my grinding?

Remvia is designed to help protect against the forces associated with clenching and grinding while the device is being worn. Because clenching and grinding can have different causes for different people, individual experiences can vary. Your dentist can help determine whether Remvia is an appropriate option based on your symptoms and goals for treatment.

How long does it take to get used to Remvia?

Most people adjust to wearing Remvia fairly quickly. As with any new device, it may feel a little unfamiliar at first simply because it is something new in the mouth. With regular use, most people become comfortable with how the device sits in the cheek and how it feels during normal rest and movement of the mouth.

What if the device moves while I sleep?

Remvia is custom made for each patient and generally stays in place while being worn. Because the material is soft and flexible, the mouth can move naturally during sleep with the device in place. If the device does come out during sleep, it is not a concern. The custom fit usually keeps this from happening, but if it does occur occasionally it is not a problem.

The Remvia Story

Invented by a dentist who lived it.

Dr. Andrea Morris, D.D.S. invented and patented Remvia after suffering from bruxism herself. During dental school she developed bruxism and found every product on the market ineffective. To resolve the problem, she developed a soft-tissue based option that effectively stopped her own night-time clenching and grinding.

Over the next decade, drawing on her working knowledge as a practicing dentist, she refined the design into a product that is now FDA-cleared to help others stop grinding.

More Information

FDA-cleared and built for the way bruxism actually behaves.

On December 5, 2025 the FDA issued a 510(k) substantial equivalence determination for the Remvia NightGuard, an intraoral appliance intended to mitigate the harmful effects of nocturnal bruxism. The device is retained in the posterior buccal vestibule and retromolar region, using anatomical support from safe, stress-bearing zones. Because Remvia does not cover the dentition, it avoids continuous occlusal loading and instead creates progressive resistance as clench force increases.

Indications for Use

  • Protection against teeth grinding, bruxism, and jaw clenching.
  • Short-term pain relief from muscle spasm due to occlusal interference.
  • Prevention of chronic tension and TMJ syndrome caused by chronic jaw clenching of the mandibular and maxillary teeth by the temporalis muscle.

Verification testing included biocompatibility studies (cytotoxicity, sensitization, intracutaneous reactivity, acute systemic toxicity, and muscle implantation) and material characterization for tensile strength, elongation, tear strength, Shore hardness, compression set, Bayshore resilience, and glass transition temperature.
